This organization wants to see more women in manufacturing

About one out of every three employees in manufacturing is a woman, but many of them are in sales and marketing position. The Women in Manufacturing Trade Association wants to see those numbers rise - and see women rising to higher positions. The president of the organization, Allison Grealis said told Modern Machine Shop, “Because there were fewer numbers of women in manufacturing, they were often the minority at events like trade conferences and trade shows, so we feel it’s critical to have this community to help women connect and to have that opportunity to learn from one another, to support one another.” Click the link if you are interested in learning more!

According to the Census Bureau, women make up about one third of the U.S. manufacturing workforce, and more than half of those women work in sales or office positions. Some women, like Allison Grealis, president of the Women in Manufacturing trade association, are dedicated to seeing those numbers grow. Since 2011, when Women in Manufacturing was founded, the number of women in manufacturing has inched upwards from 27 percent to 29 percent of the workforce today, Grealis says.
