What is Industry 4.0?
Let's get down to its roots and its rich history in manufacturing.
The name Industry 4.0 refers to the fourth industrial revolution - meaning we are building upon monumental changes that have already happened.
If it's anything like the last three, it's going to be great.
Back to the beginning
The first industrial revolution started in England during the middle of the 18th century. It brought great invention, better jobs, and changed the world.
History.com said, "On one hand, unsafe working conditions were rife and pollution from coal and gas are legacies we still struggle with today. On the other, the move to cities and inventions that made clothing, communication and transportation more affordable and accessible to the masses changed the course of world history."
What will Industry 4.0 bring?
Industry 4.0 also has the potential to change the world.
In a parallel, jobs that are dangerous for people are now being done by robots while employees are being retrained to perform safer tasks.
As for those that think Industry 4.0 is taking jobs - Forbes said, "If we contextualize Industry 4.0 with previous industrial revolutions, it’s much easier to see that Big Data won’t likely eliminate human work as much as it will elevate human work."
So, if we look to the past we can see that industrial revolutions bring positive change and progress!
